To the FGSC user community
The FGSC strives to provide materials that are of use to the community. Because
individual fungal strains require very little space or attention, we have been
able to maintain strains that either have not been requested for many years, or
are part of a collection of a retired individual, and will continue to do so.
Molecular genetic materials, however, require a significant commitment of space.
Some of these resources have limited life-spans or become outdated for other
reasons. Because of this, we have only accepted such materials with the caveat
that they would be maintained as long as they were useful and hadn’t reached the
end of their practical life-span. Some libraries that we have held for many
years have reached the end of their usefulness and we would like to eliminate
them. Prior to doing so, we would like to invite researchers to comment on our
plans and to offer them the opportunity to receive these materials prior to
their removal from our collections.
The libraries that we are considering retiring include:
Neurospora crassa YAC library (Centola)
Neurospora crassa UNM Unigene library (Nelson)
Neurospora crassa chromosome sorted library
Fusarium graminearum Cosmid library (Trail)
Aspergillus nidulans Chromosome specific library (Arnold)
Cryptococcus EST set (Oklahoma)
We have not distributed any of these libraries, as complete sets, subsets, or
individual clones for many years and would like to eliminate them to make way
for new resources.
Please let us know your thoughts on this issue, either by e-mail or in person at the Fungal Genetics Conference.
